Movies on the Mississippi Announces Winter Lineup

Hub Hospice Palliative Care is pleased to present our winter 2016 lineup! Working again with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) we will be presenting a world-class film at 2:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum on the second-last Sunday afternoon of each month from January to April 2016.

0001On January 24 we feature Into the Forest, starring Canadian Ellen Page, an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominee. Set in the not too distant future, two sisters who live in a remote country house struggle to survive after a continent-wide power outage. Informed only by rumor, they fight intruders, disease, loneliness & starvation.
On February 21 This Changes Everything, inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction bestseller, presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines of the struggle between climate change and the economic system, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond. Throughout the film, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.

On March 20 we present Learning to Drive in which, as her marriage dissolves, a Manhattan writer (Patricia Clarkson) takes driving lessons from a Sikh instructor (Ben Kingsley) with marriage troubles of his own. In each other’s company they find the courage to get back on the road and the strength to take the wheel.

On April  17 we present the wry mockumentary No Men Beyond this Point. In a world where women have become asexual and are no longer giving birth to males, a quiet, unassuming housekeeper named Andrew Myers finds himself at the centre of a battle to keep men from going extinct.
